New season’s soccer odds are up
THE odds for next season’s football leagues across Europe are all up and they make for pretty interesting reading. Betting on your team to win is a bit of an act of loyalty. You can also get some even better odds by betting as doubles and trebles with who will win La Liga aswell as the Premiership for example. The book says that Manchester United will win in England, Inter Milan are short odds for Serie A, and Real Madrid in Spain. A treble on those three would give you a return of £91 on £10. Go for Arsenal, Barca and Juve on the other hand and that same £10 would repay £720.
This year’s Championship looks to be very tight. Last year there were nearly nine teams still in with a chance right into April. This year it could be even more cut throat. QPR are favourites because they have the backing and Ian Dowie as manager. Birmingham are second favourites. Reading and Crystal Palace are right behind them. But a team like Charlton under Alan Pardew are 15/1. Last year’s high flyers Bristol are 24/1
There is also a book on who will get relegated from the Premiership. All three promoted teams are favourites to go straight back down which may be a tough prediction as far as West Bromwich Albion are concerned. Given that the teams around them all changed their managers last year in the hope of better things, they may have the adrenalin to stick. But what price a big name slipping up like Newcastle at 14/1. Chelsea on the other hand are 2499/1 against relegation. Now that would be a story.
The Champions League again favours English clubs with United and Chelsea favourites ahead of Barcelona and Real Madrid, but there is a cute bet at 14/1 on Bayern Munich and also Zenit St Petersburgh are an alluring 39/1. Villareal who finished second in La Liga last year are 24/1. Big teams have big commitments and it could be one of those years for the less fancied to nip in and grab it.
In Scotland the forecasts are for an old firm stand offf again. Celtic are 4/5. Rangers are 9/10. But third favourites are Hearts at 124/1 - just the sort of breath of fresh air football north of the border could do with.
