How to bet on Formula 1 (and win)

Bet Lewis Hamilton

The European Grand Prix held, appropriately in this year of Spanish successes, to be heldin Valencia on Sunday, is probably the defining moment of the season. Maclaren have edged ahead and in the short break since Hungary Ferrari and BMW have had a chance sort out their problems and get back on track. Valencia will show how far they are going to be competitive for the rest of the season. Lewis Hamilton is short odds to win at 5/4.

But as we saw and predicted in Hungary there is potentially another driver in the mix in his team mate Heikki Kovalainen who has the speed and the same car to take the opportunity if Lewis slips up. And he is a very cute 10/1. Get all the F1 odds here

FI racing: All hail Heikki

Heikki Kovalainen of McLaren’s victory in Hungary was overdue and predictable. And at 13/1 you might have cleaned up. The Maclaren has had the edge on the Ferrari for some weeks as Felipe Massa blown engine compounded problems. BMW after a useful spurt also seems to have been eclipsed. It is far fetched to think that Kovalainen could make up enough ground to justify a world championship bid at a secutive 74/1 but a few more victories could be on the cards, if team orders allow. Lewis Hamilton remains the favourite but there is mileage to go. Bet Lewis Hamilton.

Lewis Hamilton wins German GP in racing style

Hoechenheim. German F1 Grand Prix. Lewis Hamilton’s odds against winning the FI driver’s championships Have beenb slashed to 13/20 after back to back victopries in England and Germany. Kimi Raikonnen is still second favourite at 2/1 with Felipe Massa 4/1. Hamilton underlined his credentials overhauling a bad team decision with outrageous cart driving overtaking to set up his fourth win of the season — a victory that gives McLaren momentum to start the second half of the season. They are still second favorurite behind Ferrari for the constructor’s championship, the form of Hamilton’s co-driver Heikki Kovalainen will be critical in deciding that one as the season unfolds between now and the end of October.

Hamilton’s victory  puts him four points ahead of Felipe Massa, who settled for third place in a problematic Ferrari that couldn’t even challenge Renault’s Nelson Piquet Jr. down the home stretch.

Hamilton overtook Massa and Piquet at the same hairpin corner after Timo Glock’s earlier crash had brought out a safety car that nearly cost the McLaren driver his sixth career wire-to-wire victory.

“I would have much preferred an easy, comfortable afternoon out in front. But it didn’t work that way,” the 23-year-old said.

McLaren left its star driver out while his main rivals pitted, forcing F1’s leader to try to stretch out a lead with a rapidly evaporating fuel tank. Hamilton didn’t, and re-emerged from the pits in seventh with 17 laps to go. The chase was on.

“I made a couple of textbook moves to get past them,” Hamilton said after he nudged past Massa from the inside with 11 laps left before easing by Piquet three laps later.

Tyres hold the key on Montreal

The FI circus heads for the Giles Villeneuve cicruit on the site of Expo 67 in Montral, on an island in the middle of the Lawrence River. There is some good betting on F1 these days. You can check out the odds here. But a word to the wise…listen to the thoughts of Bridgestone tyre development director Hirohide Hamashima:

“The Circuit Gilles Villeneuve is certainly a challenging circuit for us. Not many races take place here and the surface is very slippery, so just like Monaco we need to bring the softest compounds in our range, soft and super soft. In contrast to Monaco, the speeds are very high in parts of the Montreal track, and very heavy braking takes place, meaning a lot of heat is generated and is transferred through the tyres. Durability from the tyres and good tyre management from the drivers are important considerations in Canada.

“We are still at an early stage of learning about the modified super soft compound. In Monaco we did not see a lot of running with this tyre because of the weather, and when it did run it was on a green track. There is still a lot to learn about this compound and it should be interesting for teams and drivers when we get to the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, however we are confident in our predictions and the modifications we have made from the compound we had last season.”

Bet on GP Monaco 2008

Qualifications of Monaco Grand Prix 2008. A Ferrari car

Betting on the most prestigious Grand Prix is quite tricky… Usually the pole position is a decisive advantage as it is almost impossible to overtake during this race… Nevertheless, the circuit is very demanding and any smallest mistake can lead to a disaster. The favorites are Lewis Hamilton, Kimi Raikkonen and Felipe Massa. But Fernando Alonso, last year winner, is a great champion and will do everything to keep his trophy…

But as the weather forecast is changeable, it could worth it to bet on interesting odds. Indeed, if it rains, a driver like Jenson Button could win and the odds are 99/1!!!

It is time to have a risky strategy to win money…

Bet on Monaco glamour

Lewis Hamilton in Spain

There is some patriotic money going on Renault to get its first pole position of the season on home territory. Monaco is all glitz, glamour, casino and yachts off the road but the winding track is heroically to pass which has made one of the Triple Crown events in motorsport along with the Le Mans 24 hour race and the Indianapolis 500 which also takes place on Sunday. Lewis Hamilton will be desperate to nip ahead of the Ferraris from the first corner to catch up Kimi Raikkonen in the Driver’s Championship table. Can he do the fastest lap. Also fancied to show well is the BMW of Robert Kubica.

There are increasingly interesting combinations of bets on motor racing. Who will be pole, who will be on the podium, predict the top eight both for drivers and for cars. Take a look here

Monaco started in 1929 organised by Anthony Noghès under the auspices of the Automobile Club de Monaco, and was won by William Grover-Williams driving a Bugatti.
